Scientific Event and Organization Support in Turkey

TUBITAK 2224 Series: Support for Participation in Scientific Events

As Turkey’s oldest science and technology institution, TUBITAK attaches great importance to participation in scientific events. If you are planning to attend a congress or symposium in Turkey or abroad, these programs are a real opportunity for you.

2224-A: Participation in Scientific Events Abroad

This program is for students who want to attend international conferences and present papers. Imagine, on the one hand, you are developing your academic environment, and on the other hand, you receive a support of around 263 USD. Being supported both academically and financially makes you feel confident when presenting at a scientific event abroad.

2224-B: Domestic Scientific Event Participation

This support is given to students who participate in conferences and symposiums organized in Turkey by making presentations. Approximately 132 USD of support is offered to cover costs such as participation, accommodation and transportation.

Here are the eligibility requirements:

  • Undergraduate (final year), graduate and doctoral students
  • Presentation at the event (poster or oral)

Also, if you are attracted by these supports, I highly recommend you to take a look at our article on Embassy and Consulate Scholarships in Turkey. Many international students use these dual supports together to further their academic journey.

TUBITAK 2223 Programs for Event Organizers

Organizing an event is as much an experience as giving a presentation. This is where scientific event organization support comes into play. TUBITAK’s 2223 series offers a comprehensive funding opportunity, especially for master’s and doctoral students.

2223-B: Domestic Scientific Event Support

If you are planning to organize a symposium, congress or workshop, you can receive up to 395 USD. This fund covers many expenses such as hall rents, printed materials, guest speaker expenses, etc.

2223-C: International Participatory Event Support

If your scientific event will include speakers from abroad, this type of support offers more funding. Especially for high-profile universities and teams that want to bring international academics to Turkey.

2237-A: Educational Scientific Activities

This program is a little different. Not for symposia, but for organizers of events such as workshops, summer schools or methodology camps.

Required Documents

  • Event program and guest list
  • Consent of host university
  • Budget plan detailing expenditure items

Organizing a scientific event strengthens not only your organizational skills but also your ties with the academic community. With this kind of support, you can be a part of a workshop or symposium that makes an impact in your field.

University-Based Alternative Supports and Processes

Some universities also offer support for scientific activities from sources other than TUBITAK. Student affairs or project coordination offices of universities especially in big cities are active in this regard.

ITU Department of Health, Culture and Sports

Institutions such as Istanbul Technical University (ITU) have created special support mechanisms for their students. The following documents are generally required for the application:

  • Student certificate covering the date of the event
  • Transcript
  • Event invitation
  • Wish and department compliance letter

SDU and Selçuk University Calls

Institutions such as SDU (Süleyman Demirel University) and Selçuk University periodically open additional support to TUBITAK 2223 calls. The second round of these calls for 2025 closed on May 2. It is essential to stay tuned throughout the year to avoid missing out.

If you are interested in such alternative sources, I recommend you to take a look at our article titled Educational Support from Regional Development Agencies in Turkey. It is a great advantage to evaluate both local and central supports together.

Tips and Warnings for International Students

There are some details to pay attention to when applying for a scientific event. These are sometimes overlooked but can even lead to rejection of the application. The process can be even more complicated, especially for international students who are not fluent in Turkish.

Language Support May Be Required

Some application documents may be required in Turkish. Invitation letters, student certificates or event summaries may need to be translated into Turkish. It would be good to get help from your advisor or the international office of your university.

Invitation Letter Obligation

2224-A applications require an official invitation letter from the scientific event you will attend. An email from the event organizer is sometimes not enough; it needs to be a signed letterhead.

Keep Expenditure Documents

After the scientific event you attend, you need to document your expenses such as accommodation and transportation. Be sure to keep your hotel bill, boarding pass and payment receipts. TUBITAK requests these documents during the reimbursement process.

Scientific Support and Career: What do events bring?

Many students see scientific events as an opportunity for financial support, but it’s so much more than that. Every event you attend adds another brick to your career journey.

CV Powerful Presentation Experience

Presenting at an international or national scientific event will polish your academic CV. This experience can set you apart from other candidates when applying for a master’s or PhD.

Networking: Meet the Advisor of the Future

The academic you meet at a workshop may invite you to their university in the future. Especially in international scientific events, networking is very important. Continued communication via email can even lead to a graduate scholarship.

Scientific Identity and Recognition

The more you present, the more often your name appears in the literature. Perhaps an extension of your paper will be published as a full-text article in an academic journal. All these processes start with scientific activities.

Now is the Time to Apply: Don’t Miss Scientific Support!

Make your calendar now so you don’t miss the deadlines. Most programs only call for applications twice a year and applications close quickly. Especially for final year students, these supports can be the last opportunity before graduation.
