The University Experience of Summer in Turkey: Özyeğin University Summer School

Studying in Istanbul during the summer months may sound a little unusual. But the summer school program offered by Özyeğin University is a great way for international students to experience university life in Turkey in a short period of time. You get to know the academic environment, explore the campus, and find the answer to the question “can I study here?”

Education on a Modern Campus in Istanbul

Özyeğin University has a modern campus on the Asian side of Istanbul, surrounded by nature. During the summer semester, this campus takes on a quieter yet productive atmosphere. Classes are few but intense. The library is quiet but full. This balance allows you to study and explore the city at the same time.

I spoke to a Kazakh student who came to Özyeğin last summer; she said: “Thanks to the 6 weeks I spent here, I clarified my major decision and practiced Turkish.”

Accessibility and Support for International Students

Özyeğin University supports international students at every stage, from the application process to accommodation. Summer school registrations can usually be made online. Student visa is not mandatory because it is a short-term academic program. Nevertheless, the university’s International Relations Office provides guidance on all documents and official procedures.

Who can attend Ozyegin University Summer School?

Ozyeğin University’s summer school is open not only to current students, but also to international students who are studying at other universities or who want to try studying in Turkey. In this respect, the summer school serves as both a preparatory stage and an acquaintance process.

The documents that students who want to apply for summer school should prepare are quite simple:

  • Passport photocopy

  • Travel health insurance for countries without visa requirements

The application process usually starts in May and continues until mid-June. Applications are received via Ozyegin University official website.

Additional Information for International Students

Students studying abroad can enroll as “guest students”. Thanks to this status, they also have the chance to transfer the courses they take in the summer school to their home universities as credits. Prior to course selection, they are advised to get pre-approval from their home university.

Summer school offers opportunities especially for English-taught departments. Many of the courses offered in fields such as engineering, business and law are conducted in English.

While the summer school at Ozyegin University does not have a large pool of courses, the courses offered cover core subjects and make a real contribution to the student’s academic progress. Academic Credits and ECTS Harmonizations

The courses you will take at Ozyegin University Summer School are compatible with the ECTS (ECTS) system. This makes it easier to match course credits in Europe or at your home university. Usually each course is offered as 3 credits (6 ECTS).

Some courses also include practical training, which makes the summer school not only theoretical but also practice-oriented. Özyeğin takes a very flexible and student-centered approach in this regard.

2025 Summer School Fees and Payment Options

Price is always an important issue for international students who want to study in Turkey. Özyeğin University summer school fees are moderate by private university standards. However, considering the quality of education, campus facilities and academic recognition, we can say that these prices are quite reasonable.

Current Prices Per Loan

The current fares for 2025 have not yet been announced, but according to the tariff applied in the summer of 2024, the prices were as follows:

Course Credit Course Credit
1 credit $130

Although the cost increases depending on the number of courses, many students prefer to take only one course and make the most of the summer for both academic and cultural development.
