History and Vision of the University
Anadolu University was established on November 6, 1958, in Eskişehir as the Eskişehir Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences. In 1982, it was restructured and renamed Anadolu University under Statutory Decree No. 41. It pioneered Turkey’s first open education system and remains a leader in distance learning. Currently led by Rector Prof. Dr. Fuat Erdal (since 2020), the university embraces the vision of “accessible education for all.” Its mission focuses on scientific research, innovation, and social contribution. With approximately 1.5 million students (YÖK Atlas, 2022–2023), Anadolu University is ranked in the 1001–1200 band by Times Higher Education in 2025. Education
Anadolu University offers on-campus education through 12 faculties: Open Education, Economics, Business, Pharmacy, Education, Science, Fine Arts, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Law, Communication Sciences, Sports Sciences, and Tourism. It also includes 3 graduate institutes (Science, Health, Social Sciences), 1 conservatory, and 6 vocational schools. The university offers over 100 undergraduate and more than 150 graduate programs, reaching millions via open education. Campus and Technological Infrastructure
The main campus, Yunus Emre, spans 1,500 acres in Eskişehir. The Iki Eylul Campus hosts aviation and sports programs. The university features 300,000 m² of indoor space equipped with high-speed internet and smart classrooms. Its library offers access to over 200,000 printed resources and more than 1 million digital publications, with seating for 1,500 users. The Faculty of Aeronautics is integrated with the Civil Aviation Training Center. The Technology Development Zone strengthens university-industry collaboration. Student Housing
In collaboration with KYK (Credit and Dormitories Institution), Anadolu University offers dormitory facilities. Around the Yunus Emre Campus and throughout Eskişehir, there are over 10,000 beds available. Rooms accommodate 2–6 students and include beds, wardrobes, desks, and internet access. Dormitories are equipped with laundry rooms, kitchens, and study areas. Security is maintained with 24/7 camera systems, and regular cleaning is provided. Canteens meet students’ daily needs. Applications are submitted via KYK’s online system, with priority given to scholarship recipients. Private dormitories are also available as alternatives.
Social Life
Anadolu University offers a vibrant social life. The green spaces, sports fields, and peaceful environment of the Yunus Emre Campus are notable. Sports facilities include basketball, volleyball, and fitness areas, and university teams participate in tournaments. Dining halls provide daily meals, including vegan options. Over 100 student clubs (e.g., Music, Theatre, Aviation) organize events, concerts, and the annual “Spring Festival.” On-campus cafés and shops cover daily needs. Cultural Adaptation for International Students
Anadolu University hosts nearly 1,500 international students from over 50 countries. The International Relations Office offers visa support and orientation services. Health Services and Security
The university provides basic healthcare through its on-campus Health Center, with 24/7 ambulance service. Although it does not have a medical faculty, it cooperates with local hospitals. The Psychological Counseling Unit offers individual therapy sessions, and appointments can be made online. The campus is monitored 24/7 by security personnel and cameras, with controlled access at entry points. Regular fire drills are conducted, and emergency exits are clearly marked in all buildings. The campus meets high standards in health and safety.
Transportation
The Yunus Emre Campus is located 3 kilometers from Eskişehir’s city center. It is easily accessible by tram, municipal buses, and campus shuttles. The Iki Eylul Campus is 10 kilometers from the city center. There are bike paths and parking facilities available. The campus is 5 kilometers from Eskişehir Airport and 4 kilometers from the High-Speed Train Station. Public transportation is discounted for students.
Student Support Services
Anadolu University supports students through its Career Center, offering internship and job opportunities and organizing “Career Days.” Academic advisors provide guidance throughout students’ academic journey. The Psychological Support Unit offers free therapy sessions. The Disability Services Unit ensures accessibility for students with disabilities. The Scholarship Office coordinates scholarships and part-time job opportunities. A mentoring program offers additional support.
