History and Vision of the University
Altınbaş University was established in Istanbul in 2008 by the Mehmet Altınbaş Education and Culture Foundation, originally under the name “Istanbul Kemerburgaz University.” The institution was renamed Altınbaş University through a decree published in the Official Gazette on July 1, 2017, in line with the late businessman Mehmet Altınbaş’s wish to invest in education. With its founding rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Özaslan, the university welcomed its first students in the 2011–2012 academic year.
Currently led by Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Argun Karacabey (since 2024), the university operates with the vision of “Science, Unity, Success,” aiming to provide education at international standards and to cultivate entrepreneurial and innovative individuals. It focuses especially on becoming a leader in the fields of technology and healthcare. With approximately 10,000 students (2022–2023 YÖK Atlas), Altınbaş University ranked in the 601–800 band in the Times Higher Education 2025 rankings and stands out among Turkey’s foundation universities. With strong academic backgrounds in engineering, medicine, and business, the university distinguishes itself through global partnerships.
