History and Vision of the University
Adıyaman University was established on March 1, 2006, in Adıyaman under Law No. 5467. Formed by merging academic units formerly affiliated with İnönü, Gaziantep, and Harran Universities, it officially began operations with the law published in the Official Gazette on March 17, 2006. The university was founded under the leadership of its first rector, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Gündüz, and is currently led by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Keleş (since 2023). With the vision of being a “Knowledge-Producing University,” it aims to contribute to scientific research and societal development. With approximately 22,000 students (2022–2023 YÖK Atlas), the university ranks in the 801–1000 band in the Times Higher Education 2025 rankings. In 2012, it received the ISO 9001 certificate, becoming the second certified university in Turkey.
Education
Adıyaman University offers education through 13 faculties: Medicine, Education, Science and Letters, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Engineering, Islamic Sciences, Fine Arts, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Sports Sciences, Health Sciences, Technology, and Tourism. It also includes one graduate institute, three schools, six vocational schools, and one conservatory. There are more than 150 undergraduate and associate degree programs, and over 50 graduate programs. The Faculties of Medicine and Engineering offer programs in English. Campus and Technological Infrastructure
The main campus is located in Altınşehir Neighborhood, covering 2,000 acres. Additional campuses are located in Besni, Gölbaşı, and Kahta. With 400,000 m² of indoor space, the university is equipped with high-speed internet and smart classrooms. The library provides access to 200,000 printed resources and over 1 million digital publications and accommodates 1,500 users. The Faculty of Medicine is integrated with a university research and training hospital. Adıyaman Technopark enhances university-industry collaboration. Dormitories
Adıyaman University does not have dormitories directly on campus but collaborates with KYK (Credit and Dormitories Institution). There are over 7,000 beds available in the Altınşehir area. Rooms accommodate 2 to 6 students and include beds, wardrobes, desks, and internet access. Laundry rooms, kitchens, and study areas are available in dormitories. Security is ensured with 24/7 camera systems and regular cleaning. Applications are made through the KYK system, with priority given to scholarship students. Private dormitories also offer alternative options.
Social Life
Adıyaman University offers a vibrant campus life. The campus features green spaces, sports fields, and a peaceful atmosphere. Facilities include basketball, volleyball, and football courts, and university teams participate in tournaments. Dining halls provide daily meals, and there is a variety of cafés on campus. With over 50 student clubs (such as Music and Theater), the university organizes festivals and events. Nearby attractions like Mount Nemrut and Karakuş Tumulus enrich social and cultural life. Orientation activities are held for international students.
Cultural Integration for International Students
The university hosts nearly 1,000 international students from over 40 countries. The International Relations Office provides visa support and orientation programs. Turkish language courses are offered through TOMER, and some academic programs are taught in English. Through Erasmus+, Mevlana, and Farabi programs, the university collaborates with over 150 institutions. “International Day” events foster intercultural exchange. Health Services and Security
The university, through its Research and Training Hospital, provides healthcare services with a 400-bed capacity. An on-campus Health Center offers emergency care and 24/7 ambulance service. Transportation
The main campus is 5 kilometers from Adıyaman city center and is easily accessible by municipal buses, shared taxis (dolmuş), and campus shuttles. The university is 20 kilometers from Adıyaman Airport and 5 kilometers from the bus terminal. Public transportation is available at a discounted rate for students.
Student Support Services
Adıyaman University provides internships and job opportunities through its Career Center, which also hosts “Career Days.” Academic advisors provide guidance on coursework and career planning.
