History and Vision of the University

Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University was established in Adana on March 31, 2011, by Law No. 6218. Initially named Adana Science and Technology University, it adopted its current name in 2019 under Law No. 7176. The university was founded under the leadership of its first rector, Prof. Dr. Adil Kaptanoğlu, and is currently led by Prof. Dr. Adnan Sözen (since August 2024). It embraces the vision of being an “innovative, productive, and reliable international university.” Its mission is to serve society and humanity by regenerating knowledge within the scientific production cycle. With approximately 6,000 students (2024–2025 academic year), the university ranks in the 801–1000 band in the Times Higher Education 2025 ranking. It stands out for its focus on specialization in aviation and space sciences.

Education

The university offers education through 7 faculties: Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences, Aviation and Space Sciences, Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Architecture and Design, Business, and Political Sciences. It also has one graduate institute and one school (School of Foreign Languages). There are over 40 undergraduate and associate degree programs and more than 30 graduate programs. The language of instruction is primarily English, with Aviation and Engineering departments being particularly prominent.

Campus and Technological Infrastructure

The university’s main campus is the Sarıçam Campus, active since 2017. Spread across 300 acres, the campus features modern buildings and advanced technology. It includes 150,000 m² of indoor space, high-speed internet, and smart classrooms. The library offers access to 27,000 printed resources, 240,000 e-books, and 66,500 e-journals, with a capacity of 1,000 users. A 240-meter UAV runway supports the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences. The Technology Transfer Office strengthens collaboration with industry. The campus provides a strong infrastructure for scientific research and practical education.

Dormitories

Located adjacent to the campus, the Kut’ül Amare Male Student Dormitory has a capacity of 1,300 students. The university also collaborates with KYK (Credit and Dormitories Institution) and private dormitories, offering over 5,000 beds in the Sarıçam area. Rooms accommodate 1 to 4 students and include beds, wardrobes, desks, and internet access. Dormitories are equipped with laundry rooms, kitchens, and study spaces. Security is maintained with 24/7 surveillance, and regular cleaning is provided. Applications are made through the KYK system, with priority given to scholarship students. Affordable housing options around the campus also make it a popular choice.

Social Life

The university offers a dynamic social environment. Sarıçam Campus features green spaces, sports facilities, and a modern setting. Sports areas include basketball, volleyball, and fitness spaces, with university teams participating in tournaments. The dining hall operates on a reservation system (meals cost 10 TL as of 2024). More than 30 student clubs (such as Aviation and Cultural Clubs) organize festivals and events. Adana’s landmarks, like the Seyhan River and Stone Bridge, enrich student life. Orientation events are held for international students.

Cultural Integration for International Students

The university hosts nearly 300 international students from over 20 countries. The International Relations Office provides visa support and orientation services. Turkish language courses are offered through TOMER, although most programs are taught in English. Through Erasmus+, Mevlana, and Farabi programs, the university partners with more than 100 institutions. “International Day” events promote cultural interaction. A mentorship system helps new students integrate smoothly. Adana’s warm climate and welcoming community further ease the adaptation process.

Health Services and Security

The on-campus Health Center provides basic healthcare services, and a 24/7 ambulance service is available. Although the university does not have a medical faculty, it collaborates with city hospitals for advanced care. The Psychological Counseling Unit offers individual therapy sessions, with appointments available online. Security is maintained with 24/7 surveillance and controlled entry-exit systems. Fire drills are conducted regularly, and all buildings are equipped with emergency exits.

Transportation

Sarıçam Campus is located 15 kilometers from Adana city center. It is easily accessible via municipal buses, shared taxis (dolmuş), and university shuttles. The campus is 20 kilometers from Çukurova Airport and 10 kilometers from the main bus terminal. Public transport is discounted for students. Bicycle paths and parking facilities are also available, ensuring convenient access to central Adana.

Student Support Services

The university offers internships and job opportunities through its Career Center, which also organizes “Career Days.” Academic advisors provide personalized guidance. The Psychological Support Unit offers free therapy services. The Disability Support Unit ensures accessibility and exam accommodations. The Scholarship Office manages financial aid and part-time job opportunities. A mentorship program connects students with academic and social support networks.
