History and Vision of the University
Acıbadem University was established on May 18, 2007, in Istanbul by the Acıbadem Health and Education Foundation. As one of Turkey’s first health-themed foundation universities, it was founded by businessman Mehmet Ali Aydınlar. The university aims to bring over 30 years of experience from the Acıbadem Healthcare Group into the academic field. Under the leadership of Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şahin (since 2017), Acıbadem University embraces the vision of becoming a “global leader in health sciences.”
Its mission is to educate innovative professionals committed to ethical values and contributing to public health. With approximately 4,374 students (YÖK Atlas, 2019), it ranks in the 801–1000 band in the Times Higher Education 2025 ranking and is among the top 20 universities in Turkey according to QS World University Rankings. Acıbadem University is known for its pioneering projects in fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and health technologies. It has proven its quality through international accreditations, including TEPDAD accreditation for its School of Medicine.
Education
Acıbadem University offers a wide academic spectrum with 7 faculties: Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Sciences (Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Management), Engineering and Natural Sciences (Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology and Genetics), Arts and Design, Communication, and Business. In total, there are 26 undergraduate and over 40 graduate programs, with Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, and Nursing standing out.
The university has around 800 faculty members, many of whom have international academic backgrounds and notable publications. About 70% of the instruction is in English. Theoretical education is supported by advanced technology laboratories, such as CASE (Center of Advanced Simulation and Education). More than 50 labs are equipped with robotic surgery simulators and 3D printers. Four institutes (Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Senology) strengthen graduate research. Acıbadem University is a leader in TÜBİTAK and EU-funded projects and ranks among the top in Turkey for scientific output.

Campus and Technological Infrastructure
The main campus, Kerem Aydınlar Campus, is located in Ataşehir, Istanbul, covering a closed area of 100,000 m². Opened in 2017, it holds a LEED Gold certification and is noted for its environmentally friendly and accessible design. High-speed Wi-Fi, smart boards, and interactive classrooms form the core of its technological infrastructure. The library, serving over 1,000 students, offers more than 300,000 printed resources and over 1 million digital publications, with 24/7 study areas.
CASE is one of the world’s most advanced simulation centers, featuring robotic surgery, endoscopy, and intensive care simulators. Collaboration with Acıbadem Maslak, Altunizade, and Atakent Hospitals allows students to train in real clinical environments. The campus also hosts cutting-edge biotechnology labs and supports innovative health technology projects.
Dormitory
Acıbadem University offers on-campus housing with a Guesthouse that has a capacity of 252 beds. Rooms accommodate 1–2 people and include a kitchenette, bathroom, TV, study desk, and high-speed internet. Laundry facilities, study rooms, hobby kitchens, and shared lounges provide comfort for students. Security is ensured with 24/7 surveillance and staff; cleaning is done weekly. On-campus cafeterias offer healthy food options. Annual dorm fees range between 30,000–50,000 TL, with priority given to scholarship holders and international students. Applications are submitted via an online portal. Located in the heart of campus, the Guesthouse is just a 5-minute walk from classrooms and offers a modern living space for students.
Social Life
Acıbadem University offers a vibrant social life. Green areas, outdoor seating spaces, and proximity to the Bosphorus create a peaceful atmosphere. The sports center includes a 25-meter semi-Olympic pool, squash court, basketball court, and fitness facilities. University teams have won awards in national tournaments. Dining halls offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, while campus cafes provide diverse choices. With over 40 clubs (such as the Medicine Club and Biotechnology Club), the university organizes seminars, workshops, and an annual “Spring Festival.” The 750-seat Conference Center hosts plays, concerts, and academic events. Its central location in Istanbul ensures easy access to cinemas, museums, and cultural activities. Orientation days and cultural tours are organized for international students.
Cultural Integration for International Students
Acıbadem University hosts over 400 international students from more than 50 countries. The International Office offers visa support, orientation programs, and one-on-one advising. Turkish language courses are optional, as the instruction is primarily in English, minimizing language barriers. Through Erasmus+ and bilateral agreements, students can participate in exchange programs with over 100 partner universities in Europe. Events like “International Day,” cultural exhibitions, and food festivals foster interaction. A mentoring system helps new students integrate with the guidance of upper-year students. Health Services and Security
Acıbadem University provides basic health services through its on-campus Health Center, including weekday consultations, emergency care, and 24/7 ambulance services. Affiliated Acıbadem hospitals provide advanced treatments. The Psychological Counseling Unit offers free individual therapy sessions and group workshops, with appointments available online. Security is ensured by 24/7 surveillance, biometric entry systems, and security patrols. Fire drills are conducted every semester, and all buildings are equipped with fire safety systems and emergency exits. The campus upholds high standards in health and safety.
Transportation
Kerem Aydınlar Campus is located in Ataşehir, about 15 km from central Istanbul. It’s easily accessible via the M4 Metro line (Kadıköy-Tavşantepe), E-5 bus routes, and shared taxis. Free shuttle services run according to class schedules. There are bike paths and a 500-car parking lot. The campus is 25 km from Sabiha Gökçen Airport and 50 km from Istanbul Airport. Public transportation fares are discounted by 50% with an IstanbulCard. The central location on the Anatolian side ensures convenient urban access.
Student Support Services
Acıbadem University offers internship and job opportunities through its Career Center, which hosts a “Career Fair” with over 100 companies each year. Academic advisors assist with course planning and career guidance. The Psychological Support Unit offers free therapy for exam stress and adjustment issues. The Office for Students with Disabilities ensures campus accessibility and exam accommodations. The Scholarship Office provides full scholarships for 205 medical students and 25–100% discounts for other departments. The mentoring program connects first-year students with upperclassmen for academic and social support.
