History and Vision of the University
Abdullah Gül University was established in Kayseri on July 21, 2010, through Law No. 6005 published in Official Gazette No. 27648. Named after Turkey’s 11th President Abdullah Gül, the university is a state institution supported by the Abdullah Gül University Support Foundation. Starting its academic activities in 2013, Abdullah Gül University offers an education model aligned with international standards. Currently led by Rector Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yılmaz (since 2023), the university adopts the vision of being “an innovative university at world standards.” Its mission is to cultivate individuals who are research-oriented, entrepreneurial, and contribute to global values. With approximately 2,500 students (YÖK Atlas, 2022–2023), it ranks in the 401–500 band in the Times Higher Education 2025 Young University Rankings, standing out among young universities.
Education
Abdullah Gül University offers education through 7 faculties: Engineering, Life and Natural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business, Architecture, Education, and Law. There is also 1 graduate institute (Graduate Education). In total, there are over 20 undergraduate and 30 graduate programs. All programs are taught 100% in English, with Engineering and Business being particularly prominent. Around 200 faculty members provide both theoretical and practical education. Campus and Technological Infrastructure
The main campus of Abdullah Gül University, Sümer Campus, is located in the city center of Kayseri on 280 decares of land. Created by restoring a historic textile factory, the campus offers a modern educational environment. Mimar Sinan Campus is currently under completion. The university provides a total of 100,000 m² of indoor space equipped with high-speed internet and smart classrooms. The library has over 50,000 print resources and access to more than 1 million digital publications, with a seating capacity of 500. The Technology Development Zone strengthens collaboration with the industry. The campuses provide strong infrastructure for scientific research and applied education, and Abdullah Gül University stands out for its technological facilities.
Dormitories
Abdullah Gül University offers modern on-campus dormitory facilities. Dormitories with a capacity of over 1,000 beds feature rooms for 1–4 students and include beds, wardrobes, desks, bathrooms, and internet access. They also have laundries, kitchens, and study rooms. Security is ensured with 24-hour camera surveillance, and regular cleaning is provided. Canteens meet basic needs. Applications are submitted online, with priority given to scholarship recipients and international students. In addition, KYK and private dormitory options are available in Kayseri. The proximity of dormitories to the campus ensures convenience.
Social Life
Abdullah Gül University offers a dynamic social life. The historical character of Sümer Campus, green areas, and sports facilities provide a pleasant environment. Sports facilities include basketball, volleyball, and fitness areas, and teams participate in tournaments. Dining halls serve daily meals with vegan options available. The university hosts over 40 clubs (Music, Robotics, Entrepreneurship, etc.), concerts, and the “Spring Festival.” On-campus cafés and markets meet daily needs. Proximity to Erciyes Mountain and Cappadocia enriches social activities. Orientation events for international students are organized to promote social integration.
Cultural Integration for International Students
Abdullah Gül University hosts over 300 international students from more than 60 countries. The International Relations Office provides support with visas and orientation. Since all courses are in English, language barriers are minimal, and optional Turkish courses are available. With Erasmus+ and bilateral agreements, the university collaborates with over 200 universities worldwide. Events such as “International Day” enhance cultural interaction. A mentorship system helps new students integrate into campus life. The hospitable nature of Kayseri and its central location make adaptation easier. Health Services and Safety
Abdullah Gül University provides basic health services through its on-campus Health Center, with a 24/7 ambulance available. Although it does not have a medical faculty, it collaborates with local hospitals. The Psychological Counseling Unit offers individual therapy sessions, which can be scheduled online. Campus security is maintained with 24-hour cameras and staff, and entry and exit are controlled. Regular fire drills are conducted, and buildings are equipped with emergency exits. The campus maintains high standards of health and safety.
Transportation
Sümer Campus is located 2 kilometers from Kayseri city center. Transportation is convenient with municipal buses, minibuses, and campus shuttles. Bicycle lanes and parking lots are available. Kayseri Airport is 10 kilometers away, and the main bus station is 5 kilometers away; public transportation offers discounts. Transportation will improve further upon the completion of Mimar Sinan Campus.
Student Support Services
Abdullah Gül University provides internship and job opportunities through its Career Center and organizes “Career Days.” Academic advisors offer guidance. The Psychological Support Unit provides free therapy sessions. The Disabled Student Coordination Office ensures accessibility arrangements. The Scholarship Office manages merit-based and need-based scholarships, and the mentorship program provides additional support.
